Am I dense or whut?!
So I go to all Olympic Games. That's how I roll. Do not care how lame you find it, gonna continue either way. And yeah, I blog about it. Now it's getting really nerdy, eh? Today is August 28, 2014, a day good as any other to describe events from 6 years ago.
The sad part is this: while I actually already am in possession of thousands of words from Beijing, all of them are written in my slightly useless mother tongue. Why? It's a good question. If I recall correctly, back then I still youthfully fantasised about some kind of career in sports journalism. Today I'm shaking my head even thinking about it. That ship hasn't merely sailed. That ship has never even been constructed. I am what I am: a patent examiner from 9 to 5, based in the Hague, for life or at least for a sizeable part of it. A citizen of Europe, and an enthusiast of the entire planet. Life's good that way, too.
While I enjoy polishing my Spanish, refreshing my German, or learning my Dutch, today I firmly believe English is the only language we should truly care about, because languages are but tools. So yeah, what seemed like an interesting if slightly controversial language choice back then (hey, at least my mum liked it), seems plain dumb from today's perspective. What I'll be doing here is posting the original content and then trying to summarise it, more or less. Even if most of the humour is lost in translation, at least now Google owns the world, so they'll never shut me down.
